Description

Two World War I service banners and three cards giving the history of the banners. Banners had been displayed at Kabletown United Methodist Church (A) Red and white satin banner with thirteen blue stars (no names) hand-stitched to white satin fabric. (B) Cotton banner with white background and red border machine-stitched to background. Fourteen blue stars names of Kabletown-area soldiers written in script in gold and "1918" embroidered in blue in center. Names in first row (left to right): Howard Ware, Raymond Marcus, Roger Clipp. Second row: Harry Langdon, Lucas Boyer, Elmer Roderick. Middle row: Edgar Frye, "1918", Gilbert Mercer. Fourth row: Edgar Roderick, Ernest Clipp, Robert McCarty. Bottom row: Edgar Jacobs, Alexander Rouss, Elmer Kemp. (C) Three cards, handwritten in ink by Marianna Johnson Smallwood, giving the history of the two banners and dated October 20, 1944. Names on the stars were names of soldiers who lived in the Kabletown area.
