Description

At the time of the establishment of rural free delivery, the post office in Charles Town was located in the Old Market House, also known as Charles Washington Hall. The current post office, at the southwest corner of George and Washington Streets, was built in 1923 on the site of the old Jefferson County Jail. Upper: Charles Washington Hall with 11 men in front of the post office. The post office was located in this building from the 1880s to 1899.
