Scope and Content

The Davenport Family Collection consists primarily of late 19th and early 20th century correspondence (18 folders) to and from descendants of Abraham Davenport II and Frances Williams Davenport or their spouses. In addition, four folders contain late 19th and early 20th century financial, legal, and miscellaneous papers concerning the Davenport family. Documents in some folders are numbered and briefly described in the inventory attached in Media. In other folders, documents are neither numbered nor described; these folders are marked "No #/no desc." CORRESPONDENCE: FOLDERS 1-18 Folders contain correspondence primarily to and from descendants of Abraham Davenport II (1752-1825) and Frances Williams Davenport (1752-1829) or their spouses. Letters are organized in folders labeled and arranged alphabetically according to the name of the person who is the author or recipient. A few of these folders also contain miscellaneous documents related to the person named on the folder. FOLDERS 19-22 Collection of late 19th and early 20th century financial and legal documents with related correspondence and miscellaneous papers related to the Davenport family. Also in Media are files on Abraham (I) and Mary Simms Davenport and descendants, Altona, and the obituary of H. B. Davenport II.
