Scope and Content

Papers primarily concerning Roger Chew and his family of the Snickersville area (now Bluemont), Loudoun County, Va., and the Kabletown area of Jefferson County, Va. (now W. Va.). Most of the papers are 19th century financial documents Roger Chew (1797-1864), who was the son of John Chew (1749-1838) and Margaret Ready Chew (1762-1837), moved to the Snickersville (now Bluemont) area of Loudoun County about 1777. With Sarah West Aldridge Chew, he had six children, including Roger Preston Chew. He and his family moved to "The Hermitage" near Kabletown in Jefferson County in the 1850s. Also included are papers related to Tmothy Carrington (1791-1830), who was married to Margaret Chew (1802-1878), daughter of John and Margaret Ready Chew of Loudoun County (Snickersville area). Roger Chew, sister of Margaret Chew Carrington, was the administrator for his brother-in-law's estate. The collection is being processed.
