John Young's carpentry ledger

Scope and Content

Ledger kept by Charles Town carpenter John Young from 1790 to 1833, detailing carpentry and other work done, and the charges for the work, for various people in the Charles Town area. Ledger entries are generally chronological under the name of the person for whom the work was done and include credit or payment for the work. Several loose papers were in the ledger. Many of the names of Young's customers are listed in the People section. On the first page of the ledger is written "John Young's Book August 4th 1790". "John Young's Book" is written twice more on the page along with several dated entries. Genealogical information on the Young family is on the last page and on the Lott family on the penultimate page. (John Young's second wife was Mary Lott.)
