Map of Frederick, Berkeley, & Jefferson Counties in the state of Virginia by Charles Varle. Relief shown by hachures. Shows names of some residents. Topographical description of the counties of Frederick, Berkeley & Jefferson in which the mapmaker described "the natural curiosities of those counties." Inset in lower right corner: "Plan of Winchester". Includes names of neighboring counties: Loudon [sic} Fauquier, Shanandoah [sic], etc. Show towns, grist and merchant mills, bodies of water, mountain gaps, etc. Handwritten in pencil on bottom left of map: "Original I think was 36" x 26". I sold to congressional library. T. T. Perry Jr." Handwritten in ink on back: "Charles Varle 1809". According to the JCM historian, only land owners who paid a fee had their property identified on the map.
