Scope and Content

A herbarium collection of 42 preserved, pressed flowers and associated scientific data. Compiled by Charles R. Ross, Jr., Storer College, Harpers Ferry, W. Va. Ross graduated from Storer College in 1938. Storer College was the first West Virginia college open to African Americans. Red front and back cover pages. The front cover page reads: Storer College, Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Herbarium, Name Charles R. Ross. At the top is "43 flowers" written in pen. Each page is titled "Storer College" and "Botanical Specimen." A pressed flowering plant is in the middle of the page, as well as a hand-drawn diagram with floral formulas underneath. (Some flowers are missing--likely fell out of the book as it has been handled.) At the bottom are entries for family, genera, species, scientific name, common name, habitat, and date. Most pages have "Ross" written in pen at the top right corner.
