Three (3) indentures for the same parcel of land in Berkeley County, WV:
ARC896-1: Indenture between Thomas Lord Fairfax and John Lewis, dated November 21, 1775, for 951 acres of land in Berkeley County in the vicinity of Swan Pond.
ARC896-2: Indenture between John Lewis and Richard Clagget, Sarah Martin, and Elizabeth Williams, dated September 3, 1801, for 951 acres of land, transferring the tract granted by Thomas Lord Fairfax to John Lewis to Clagget, Martin, and Williams.
ARC896-3: Indenture between Jacob Bedinger and Richard Clagget, Honore Martin, Sarah Martin, Edward O. Williams, and Elizabeth Williams, dated September 5, 1801, for 951 acres of land. This is an amendment to the September 3 indenture that adds Honore Martin, husband of Sarah Martin, and Edward O. Williams, husband of Elizabeth Williams, as grantees of the transactions. An attached note signed by Berkeley County Justices of the Peace, Joseph Swearingen and Richard Baylor, affirms that they interviewed both Elizabeth Martin and Elizabeth Williams individually and they both confirmed that they had willingly agreed to add their respective husbands as grantees on the indenture, dated September 6, 1801.
