The James E. Tabb Collection contains dairy herd record books, approximately 350 post cards, and several miscellaneous documents. James Elliott Tabb (1873-1959) was a dairy farmer at Vinemont farm in the Kearneysville/ Leetown area of Jefferson County. He married Anna Lea Carter (1882-1995) in 1912; they had three children: George Elliott, James Carter, Lyle Campbell II. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Dairy Industry, Dairy Herd-Improvement Association. Recorded in each book are individual-cow records and monthly herd summaries for one year each for J. E. Tabb's milk cows. Pictured are scenes from Jefferson County, across the United States, and Europe. -About 30 post cards postmarked from 1905 to 1952 and addressed to or written by relatives, including Frances (Fannie) Tabb, Mrs. J. E. Tabb (Anna Lea Carter Tabb), E. M. Tabb, Mayo Tabb, W. C. Tabb, Emily Miller Campbell Tabb, George Mayo Tabb, and Woodrow Campbell Tabb -More than 100 post cards with no address and no handwritten message likely from the early 20th century with scenes from Jefferson County, across the United States, and Europe, including several showing World War I soldiers at the end of the war. -Two cardboard post card albums: one with red covers, front cover decorated with a scene and flowers and one with covers a faded reddish color, Post Card Album written on front cover, on inside front cover is handwritten From R. K. Tabb Bluefield W. Va. Oct. 12-05 J. E. Tabb Wasp Nest. The albums originally held many of J. E. Tabb's post cards; however, they were removed because of the poor condition of the albums. Miscellaneous documents (one folder): -Nine receipts to J. E. Tabb from Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York for payment on premium, 1922-1932 (and two Mutual Life Ins. Co. envelopes) -One envelope with return address J. E. Tabb, Kearneysville, W. Va. Ayrshire Cattle - Belgian Horses -One wedding invitation to Mr. and Mrs. James E. Tabb, postmarked 1951 -A letter from Anne (Annie?) to Margery Slingluff (?), postmarked 1910 -A letter from Hugh Fergus to J. E. Tabb, dated January 28, 1954 All items except post cards are stored at SR2/SU1/S2/Box 13. Postcards are stored at SR2/SU1/S2/Box 14.
