Scarce engraved map of "Virginia," ca. 1831-1836. The map depicts major land routes, topographical features, and political divitions in early 19th century Virginia. The principal cartographer, David Burr, served as topographer of the Post Office and was appointed Geographer for the House of Representatives.
The map was published by Thomas Illman & Pilbrow, New York. "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1834 by Thomas Illman in the Clerks Office of the District Court for the Southern District of New York."
