Description

Altona, Charles Town, West Virginia: Altona, on the Middle road near Charles Town was a favorite camping site for the armies during the Civil War. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan camped here before he started his famous ride through the Shenandoah Valley in 1865. Henry Bedinger Davenport III presently owns the estate, and lives there with his mother and his stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Leeds Riley.
