THE BOWER, Leetown, West Virginia - During the autumn of 1862, after the Battle of Antietam, J. E. B. Stuart's Confederate cavalry camped on a hill within walking distance of the Dandridge mansion, called "The Bower." Every night the soldiers were entertained at this house where there was music, sometimes provided by the regimental band, dancing, and charades.Acquisition
