United States Post Office in Charles Town. Photograph of the U. S. Post Office (southwest corner of George and Washington Streets) under construction. The African American man on the right standing on the floor is Beverly Douglas Taylor (father of James L. Taylor). The other men are unknown. Visible in the upper right corner are the Virginia Products building and a corner of the Sadler Building, both still standing in 2013. Also visible top center is the roofline of the Charles Town Hospital on Congress Street, today headquarters for American Public University System. Handwritten on the bottom of the photograph is April 1st, 1923. The post office was built on the site of the Jefferson County Jail. Image stored as a jpeg.
