Arsenal Square. From the CSX railroad tracks looking north up High Street. Open pit excavation within the three-rail fence afforded visitors a view of the basement of the small arsenal building showing numerous rusted and burned metal gun parts which had fallen there when the arsenal was burned by men under the command of First Lieutenant Roger Jones on the night of April 18, 1861. The pit has since been covered. The foundation of the large arsenal, also burned on April 18th, can be seen outlined in stone in the lower right corner. Seen in the background on the right is the Ann C. Stephenson building.
