Beallair. West Virginia Highway Historical marker. Text: Colonel Lewis Washington, who lived here, was one of the hostages captured by John Brown in 1859 in his raid on Harpers Ferry. When captured, Brown wore a sword, once owned by George Washington, taken from this home. (1 Mi. N.) NOTE: Two (2) 4" X 5" B&W photograph
