Front of card is gold painted cutout with figure of man and woman, a church steeple, sheep and trees. Handwritten poem on inside paper, when folded open and continues on back of card. Includes folded envelope enclosure, with cut design made to look like lace. Envelope is inscribed "To Miss Harriet Lane, Philadelphia." - Invitation from President and Mrs. Cleveland to dinner with Princess Eulalie on May 23, 1893. On the letterhead of the Executive Mansion, Washington. [copy is on display, case 20] - Invitation to meet Their Majesties the King and the Queen, from the American Ambassador and Mrs. Choate on June 11, [no date, but probably 1899 - 1905] at the Carlton House Terrace. [copy is on display, case 20] - Invitation for Mrs. Johnston and Miss Kennedy to meet his Imperial Highness the Grand Duke Alexander of Russia, from Prince Cantacuzene on May 9, [1893--See Media attachment for 1893 New York Times article covering the dinner; article obtained online]. Miss Kennedy is May S. Kennedy, HLJ's cousin and companion. - Printed and hand-written invitation. Text is "The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by The Queen to invite Mrs. Henry Johnston & Miss Kennedy to a Ball on Friday the 8th of July, 1898 at 10-30 o'clock. Buckingham Palace. Full Dress.". Mrs. Henry Johnston is Harriet Lane Johnston. Miss Kennedy is May Selden Kennedy, HLJ's cousin and companion. -Presidential seal in gold on top. Printed in black ink in script "The President and Mrs. Cleveland request the pleasure of the company of" handwritten in ink "Mrs. Johnston" printed "at dinner on" handwritten "Thursday" printed "evening" handwritten "January twenty-first" printed "at" handwritten "8" printed "o'clock 1897." handwritten "to meet the Diplomatic Corps." Mrs. Johnston is Harriet Lane Johnston. [copy is on display, case 20] - Typed genealogy showing relationship of Margaret Beverley Taylor to Harriet Lane Johnston. [Genealogy is partially incorrect, e.g., the dates of Elliott Tole's birth and death are wrong; Thomas is brother of Willoughby and Elliott, not Elliott's father; Joseph E. is Harriet's grandfather, not her great-grandfather.
