Historic Harpers Ferry and the Potomac River: Harper's Ferry (on U. S. 340) is one of the most beautiful and interesting places in the East. It was the scene of much activity during the Civil War. Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia converge at this point, as do the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.
