Description

Tin miner's oil-wick cap lamp with shield behind the wick holder. Circa 1880. Black with a hook on back. Shield is dented and cracked slightly . Slightly rusted. Oil-wick cap lamps contained an oil fueled wick that was stuffed into the spout. The lamps were worn on soft caps that offered little protection but gave off enough light for miners to see in front of them.
