Description

Cavalry sword with two-ring scabbard. Made by W. H. Horstman, Philadelphia, 1840-1850. Has basket-type brass hand guard. Handle of sword is wrapped with leather. According to donors, sword was "Said to have belonged to Capt. LeRoy Parker Daingerfield, the first man to lose a limb in the Confederate States Army...at the battle of Philippi." (Daingerfield shortened his first name from Fauntleroy to LeRoy.)
