" The ruins of public school house, located 3 miles south-west of Harpers Ferry, W. Va. Destroyed during the War Between the States. " [handwritten] First free school in Jefferson County. Gone [typed] Located on the Harper's Ferry Pike a short distance from Halltown. It is said to have been built about 1847 or 1849. Robert N. Duke was the first teacher.
