Description

Silver water pitcher showing a house, tower, trees, and birds on one side, sailing ship on the other side. Hinged lid with grape cluster finial. Inscribed on the pitcher is "MERIDEN BRIT'A Co. DOUBLE WALL PITCHER LYMAN'S PATENT JUNE 8, 1858". A Spirit of Jefferson County clipping from February 8, 1933, to Mrs. Humphrey Keyes mentions(?) the pitcher. See also "When Tidewater Invaded the Valley". Also there is a letter (ARC675 K16) from the Richmond Grays to Mrs. Jane H. Keyes written on December 22, 1859, that accompanied the pitcher and goblets catalog numbers 127 and 128.
