"Hell's Half Mile" This section of Ladore Canyon received the title "Hell's Half Mile" when Major Powell and party were on theri expedition through the Green and Colorado River Canyon in 1869-1872. This picture was made on Kolb Brothers photographic expedition through these same canyons, including Grand Canyon of Arizona. Their journey began at Green River City, Wyoming, and terminated at Needles, California. The time consumed was 101 days; the descent 6000 feet, principally in dangerous rapids, of which there were more than three hundred. Kolb Brothers accomplished two-thirds of their journey, each rowing a separate boat, a third party joining them for the balance of the trip. Kolb Brothers
