Description

This device was patented in 1911 and is designed for accurately cutting fibre/bamboo needles which are ""used in disk phonographs produce a softer and more natural tone" (Patent 1009009; see attachment for full patent specification). The description on the box shown opposite reads: "In simplicity, durability and effectiveness the Record Needle Cutter is perfect in every respect. It trims the needle with a slicing, shearing cut, which leaves a perfect, long-wearing point on the fibre needle. The Record Needle Cutter will last indefinitely as there is absolutely nothing to get out of order. Should it ever become necessary to sharpen the blade, it can be removed and sharpened as easily as a safety razor blade. The Record Needle Cutter is simple and easy to operate. The needle finds its way almost automatically into the cutter by means of a channel or guide. To operate, insert the needle, hold firmly in channel and cut same as with an ordinary scissors. The needle is so guarded that only enough is cut to insure a new and perfect point. No oiling necessary. No springs or parts to get out of order. Fully guaranteed."
