Philadelphia: Printed and sold by James Humphreys, 1805. First American Edition; first edition with the plates engraved by the American engraver Benjamin Tanner. An excellent copy of an early American surgical text first published in London in 1803. "Hey was an excellent surgical operator. He introduced valuable improvements into the treatment of hernia, of cataract, of dislocations, and other surgical diseases... The name of 'Hey's operation' is given to a mode (devised by him) of partial amputation of the foot in front of the tarso-metatarsal joint."-DNB. "Hey described subacute osteomyelitis of the tibia before Brodie... He coined the phrase internal derangement of the knee", and described injuries to the meniscal cartilages.
