Vue d'Optique] Der Einzug der Kniglichen Vlcker in Neu Yorck. L' Entre triumphale de Troupes royales a Nouvelle YorckDescription
A fanciful hand-colored rendering of Revolutionary New York, as the norm for Vue d'Optiques, which were typically drawn by artists who had never been to the places depicted. 30 by 41 cm. The city looks more like Berlin or Hannover than New York. The marching soldiers are also obviously imagined and not based on a drawing or sketch from life. Among other things, the British soldiers are generally not wearing redcoats, and so the uniforms are probably more in the style of some German army's. Nonetheless, the print does evidence the newsworthiness of the American Revolution in Europe as well as the distortions that entered into its remote coverage. Condition: stains and soiling around perimeter. On heavy card, so the print itself is sturdy. Academie Imperiale d'Empire des Arts Libereaux, Augsburg, 1778.
