PRINGLE, John. Observations on the Diseases of the Army. Pringle served as Physician General to the British Army in the 1740s, and is widely regarded as the father of military medicine. His books lay down the principles of military sanitation and the ventilation of barracks, gaols, hospitals, ships, etc‚ it was due to his remarks‚ that foot soldiers were given blankets when on service.This book was first published in 1752 and is a collection of experiences, accounts, and observations of his involvement with military medicine. This copy was owned by an American naval surgeon named George Brush. Brush entered the service as Assistant Surgeon in 1861 and passed surgeon in 1871.
