Description

This family history folder contains photographs of Morris J. Gummer and his wife, Anne (Evens) Gummer printed on page 53 in the book: Diamond 75th Jubilee, 1881-1956, Mayville, Traill County, North Dakota. From information included on page 53 (below), we know that Morris J. Gummer claimed land in 1871 on what is now the southeast corner of Mayville (see 1892 Atlas map, below). As shown, Morris Gummer's land was in the north-half of Section 5 and located adjacent to land owned by his brother Harry Gummer. A photograph of Morris and Anne Gummers farmstead was included on page 46 in the 1892 Atlas. Diamond Jubilee page 53 information also states that in 1878 Morris J. Gummer married Annie Evans (also written as Evens), and they had eight children: John, Arthur, William, Goodman, Rose, Thresa, Charles and Jennie Gummer. Their son John was the first boy born in Mayville. The lives of Morris J. and Anne (Evens) Gummer were also described on page 70 in Vol. I of the Traill County History book (below). This document states that Morris J. and Anne Gummer had eleven children, but only notes their first born, John Gummer, and a later son, Morris G. Gummer, who married Della Nelson in 1928 and continued on the home farm until 1937, when the farm passed on to their son, Gordon Gummer. From page 70 of Vol. I of the Traill County History book (below), we know that Gordon Gummer was born on 13 October 1918 in Mayville. On 5 September 1954, Gordon Gummer married Shirley Ann Brown of Blanchard. Their son, Gary Scott Gummer, continues to farm in Mayville Township.
