This Camel ad appeared in magazines such as 'Country Life' in 1932-1933. Note that the whiteness of the "square checkers" popularized by Harold Thorne may reflect the original appearance of bakelite that would yellow with time, but that it may also be the work of the graphic designer, as these early color ads employ a lot of touch-ups. Note also that the surprisingly modern-looking doubling cube follows the 1930 numeral scheme.Publication Details
