Description

This cover illustration for Collier’s came two months after the 'Vanity Fair' cover by Alajalov, and seems as though it could have been painted in reply. Illustrator Jay Hyde Barnum reverses the perspective, so the man is now rolling and his female opponent is the primary subject, and most strikingly, her persona has change to one of cool, thoughtful expertise. Note the detail of the 'Backgammon Matches' to the left of the table. The entire magazine has been framed for display. Collection seeks whereabouts of the original art for this cover.
