This ad for over-sized doubling cubes and octagons as well as a variety of bakelite checkers appeared in a one-off 1976 magazine called 'Backgammon Illustrated', helpful for dating these now highly prized pieces. By this time, bakelite production had been banned in the US, but large stockpiles of the material had yet to run out. Note that none of the doubling cubes follow a regular numeral scheme.
