'Faux Book' Set w/ ImplementsEntry/Object ID
BG-2024.0446Description
This sturdy, nicely tooled 20th century version of a 19th-century 'faux book' set includes a deluxe implements box suggestive of the 1930-35 period. The dice cups are very nicely made, with a 'trip lip' unusual for that period -- but they also somewhat resemble the 'Backgammon matches' cylindrical cases marketed in 1931. Checkers are an uncertain plastic material, and the dice, with rounded corners suggest a later date. The dice fit snugly in a compartment intended for them, while the checkers do not store neatly in their compartment -- and there is no suggestion that a doubling cube was ever part of the set.
A further clue might be this set's inclusion in a 1947 ad for Goddall Fabrics (see link).Made/Created
