Description

This attractive set is of lightweight but very sturdy construction, clearly superior to the cardboard folding sets of the day. Both the playing surface and the checkers participate in the popular "backgammon colors" of the day, and the checkers bear a decorative swastika pattern, which at the time was a popular 'good luck' symbol and would not have been associated with Nazi Germany -- though unfortunately it is impossible to see the symbol today without evoking its dark meanings. This set appears to be unused, and complete with implement box containing the checkers, dice, and two instructional booklets. Cutler & Saleeby owned a paper box company in Springfield, Massachusetts, home of Milton Bradley, so it is not surprising the set would include one of their booklets.
