Eric Zimmerman’s neon wall sculpture is meticulously assembled, using overlapping zig-zags of neon tubing. Colored glass and phosphorus coating contribute to a pastel palette of illuminated colors. Providing a structural and illusionary space, Zimmerman's work speaks to the reflexive relationship between architecture and neon over the 20th and 21st centuries. Eric Zimmerman’s work is influenced by his father’s background as an architect. Even before attending California Institute of the Arts, Zimmerman was intrigued by the glow of neon. This eventually became the key element of his large-scale neon sculptures, which continues to inform his practice in 2D digital pieces.
