Asa Warren Morris [1826-1891], California pioneer.
Asa Warren Morris (the pioneer) was the second son of Ephraim Morris and Martha Roseberry, of Center Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Asa joined the 1850 Jefferson California Company wagon train bound for the California gold rush. After a failed mining career, he rode his horse down into the Sacramento Valley in 1852, and squatted on 160 acres of land in Yolo County, California. Asa had two wives: 1. Jane Zimmerman (1837-1869) of Greene County; 2. Mary Alice Campbell (1853-1944). Asa and Mary Alice were second cousins. Her parents, William Campbell and Elizabeth Hughes, were both born in Greene County. Asa served as a County Supervisor and laid out the roads in northern Yolo County. His namesake nephew, Asa W. Morris (dairyman), came to California in 1879 to work for his uncle. Both men lived out their lives in California.
