Description

Ross Drug Store on High Street in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. It is believed that this photograph shows the Ross Drug Store at its original location in the Silveus Building. This building neighbored the Grossman Building, which was destroyed in the Downey House fire on 23 December 1925. When the remains of the Grossman Building were being torn down following the fire, its west wall collapsed onto the Silveus Building, damaging it so severely that it had to be torn down and rebuilt. Pictured in the aisle on the far left is store owner Jesse Lazear Ross [husband of Mary Catherine Donahoo, son of Timothy W. Ross & Mary Zimmerman], standing behind the counter is Newt Penn who worked in the store, others are unidentified. Original, no photographer listed.
