Martha (Reay) (Cowen) Sutton [1809-1890] - wife of Rev. Robert H. Sutton. With her first husband, she was the mother of Prof. John William Cowen [1834-1887]. Identification based on item # DENN-AN004-0010. This photograph is most likely a 1920s-era reproduction of a late 1850s or early 1860s image. The original photographer is not known. The reproduction was made by Clarence F. Long, Waynesburg, Pa.

The Josephine Denny Collection was passed from Eleazer Luse Denny [1865-1910] and his wife, Louise (Inghram) Denny [1867-1956], to their daughters, Mary Inghram (Denny) Weaver [1891-1972], Josephine Denny [1893-1992], and Helen (Denny) Howard [1896-1981]. Josephine Denny passed the collection to Farley Toothman who owned and shared it with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project between 2004 and 2025.
