Description

Cabinet card photograph of Alice May (Hughes) Payne [1871-1962] - wife of Clyde Wilse Payne, daughter of John Hughes and Sarah Jane Mitchener. Caption reads, "Alice Hughes - (niece of Dora Mitchener Baily) daughter of Sarah Jane Mitchener Hughes (Jennie)." Original, professional photograph from J. B. Scholl Studio, 210 State Street, Chicago. Mitchener Album 01, Photo 05. Based on the identified photographs and an inscription that reads, "Album presented to Lee I. Mitchener by F. M. Mitchener," we believe the Mitchener Album originally belonged to Ida Leonis "Lee" Mitchener [1857-1924], daughter of William B. Mitchener and Mary Way. The album passed to Lee's sister Harriet Eldora "Dora" (Mitchener) Baily, whose descendants have preserved it in original order.
