The Illig Turkey Farm existed above where we know Bowlby Street to be today. A 65-acre portion of the Illig farm was purchased in 1899, to develop 118 residential lots that stretched west of West Street. The 14 new blocks extended from College Street north to Sixth Avenue. Bowlby Street, Huffman Street, and Ross Street were named in honor of the Illig Addition's principal developers.
