Dated 1909. Waynesburg Academy basketball team. The Waynesburg College Preparatory Department, also known as Waynesburg Academy, prepared students for the college curriculum. It was terminated in 1916, when it was determined to no longer be necessary because adequate high school education had become more commonly available. [Left-Right]: BACK - "Bud" Pipes; MIDDLE - John Lynn Crawford Gordon Meighen [1888-1983] (Waynesburg College, Class of 1913), "Liz" Henderson, Thomas Ewing Montgomery [1891-1962] (Waynesburg College, Class of 1913), "Slaus" Alley; FRONT - Willis J. Hutchins [1889-1955], "Red" Baer. Handwritten inscription on image reads, "'Bud' Pipes, Mgr. / Jonny Meighen / 'Liz' Henderson / Ewing Montgomery / 'Slaus' Alley / Willis Hutchins / 'Red' Baer." Scrapbook of Waynesburg College memories, 1910-1912, assembled by Paul Waddell Knox [1891-1965], Class of 1913. The album includes 83 images of classmates, friends, sports teams, social groups, and members of Company K, 10th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, National Guard. Paul was the son of a Waynesburg College couple, Isaac Havely Knox (Class of 1889) and Theodosia Burr (Waddell) Knox (Class of 1884), who also appear in their son’s album.
