Description

This Carte-de-Visite photograph is a reproduction of an earlier image of Susan Jane (Blakely) Munnell [1824-1866] - first wife of John Munnell, daughter of James Blakely & Jane Wilson. The original was probably a daguerreotype photograph taken in the early 1850s. The Carte-de-Visite photograph reproduction was created by A. Wallace, Artist, Waynesburg, Pa. There is a 2 cent tax stamp on the back side indicating that the photo dates to the Civil War, probably between 1 August 1864 and 1 March 1865 during the time when a tax stamp higher than one cent was used. Also see item # GCHS-AN008-0011.

Notes

The photograph is included in an album that, based on personalized inscriptions on several photographs, most likely belonged to the family of John Munnell [1826-1889] and his second wife, Mary (McFerran) Munnell [1836-1910]. The album was probably donated by Mary Inghram (Munnell) Rinehart [1898-1986], John Munnell's granddaughter by his first marriage with Susan Jane Blakely, to the Greene County Historical Society (918 Rolling Meadows Road, P.O. Box 127; Waynesburg, Pennsylvania 15370). Researched and digitized for the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project, between 2005 and 2011.
