Description

This photograph was given to Olin E. Hartley by his second cousin Robert Gass. Their common ancestor, William Gass [1832-1898], was a blacksmith. This building may have been his shop or one in which he was employed. Charles F. Silveus, the photographer who took this picture, also took a photograph of the J. R. Staggers Carriage and Blacksmith Shop, which may be seen in item no. GCHS-AN026-0216B. Joseph Fitz Randolph Staggers, owner of the Staggers shop, was a brother to Alice Staggers who married Robert Toppin Gass. Robert was a son of William Gass [1832-1898].
