Dated 1940. Works Projects Administration team that cataloged items at the Greene County Historical Society Museum, which was located at that time in the Long Building on the northwest corner of High and Morgan Streets in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Frank Jones was curator of the museum during this period. Jones very likely took this photo, which appears in his album, and wrote the following caption:
"W. P. A. crew that catalogued the Museum in 1940. Left to right: Mrs. Mitchell, Jake Clovis (standing), Mrs. Pettit now under indictment for the murder of Mrs. Headlee, Mrs. Williams, Grace Gump, Mrs. England, Mr. Wallace, and Mr. Albert Keener."
The caption alludes to the crime of Elizabeth (Huffman) Pettit [1916-1990] who with her sister, Otis Merle (Huffman) Cumberledge [1904-1969], and Robert Headley [1891-1963] were convicted of intent to kill and conspiracy to murder Robert Headley's wife, Ada (Hubbs) Headley [1896-1941]. The attempted murder took place 14 August 1940 in Pine Bank, Gilmore Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.

The Frank Jones Album Series of the Zenia Gilbert Collection was assembled by Frank Blair Jones [1879-1951] - husband of Lydia White, son of Ephraim McClelland Jones and Julia Ann Henderson. Frank was a U.S. Navy veteran and bandmaster. He was very interested in early local history and served as curator at the Greene County Historical Society.
The album was passed from Frank Blair Jones [1879-1951] to his son Frank E. Jones [1919-1993]. Frank's niece, Valerie (daughter of William Ephraim Rodman Jones, granddaughter of Frank Blair Jones) received the album after her uncle's passing. Valerie arranged for the album to be maintained locally in the custody of Violet Elizabeth (Stockdale) Gilbert [1918-2006]. Violet's mother was Rachel Jane (Jones) Stockdale, sister to Frank Blair Jones. Violet passed the album to her daughter Zenia Gilbert who shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2015.
