Description

Thomas Mooney Jr. and his daughters, pictured [Left-Right]: BACK - Hannah Mooney [1862-1928]; FRONT - Thomas Mooney Jr. [1833-1905], Olive Jane (Mooney) Rose [1870-1942]. A modern handwritten inscription on the back of the photograph indicates that this is an image of Eli Rose with his wife, Elizabeth (Kiger) Rose, and one of their daughters. However, this identity has been discounted for several reasons (1) the man in the photo is visibly very identical to Thomas Mooney Jr. as identified in other photos and also bears a very strong family resemblence to an identified photo of Thomas Mooney Sr. who was the father of Thomas Mooney Jr.; (2) the women in the photo are both much too young for either of them to be Elizabeth (Kiger) Rose [1832-1899]; and (3) comparisons with identified photos quite clearly identify the two young women as the noted daughters of Thomas Mooney Jr. Original, professional photograph from Rogers, Photo, Waynesburg, Pa.

The Kathleen (Varner) Teagarden Collection photographs were in large part passed from Sebastian Cabot Rose [1860-1926] and his wife, Olive Jane Mooney [1870-1942], to their daughter, Etheal Rose [1897-1958], and her husband, James Leander Varner Jr. [1893-1975], to their daughter, Kathleen (Varner) Teagarden, who added to the collection from various relatives and sources in an effort to compile family history.
