Francis Lazear (Greene County, Pennsylvania) to Nancy E. Lazear (Waynesburg, Pennsylvania), letter, 3 July 1848. "Greene County July 3rd 1848. Dear Daughter, You state in your last letter that you would like to go to school a while longer providing we could spare you, if you are doing better for yourself we wish you to do so. I shall not attempt to give you any counsel at this time as I believe your Uncle and Aunt will advise you and they are more competent than my self. I would just say strive to live in the discharge of every duty that God has enjoined upon you, and make preparations for a better world than this. My sincere love and well wishes ever remain for you give my love and thanks to your Uncle Aunt and family. I remain your affectionate Father etc. Fr. Lazear PS Your Mother says if it is convenient for you to bring out that quilt pattern you had out here when you come home she would like to have it. F. L. Nancy E. Lazear Waynesburg Pa."

Notes

The Throckmorton-Bentley Genealogy Series of the Dr. Jeannette Franc Throckmorton Collection consists of selected items from a hand-typed manuscript, given as a Christmas gift to Jeannette's sister, Daisy, in 1914. Included among these pages are photographs, letters, articles, pieces of cloth and lace, and other items preserved from the family history. Along with the Throckmortons are documented the Crows, Lazears, Bentleys, Days, Scotts, Sutphins, and Howards, primarily of Pennsylvania and Iowa. The original book is in the possession of a descendant of Jeannette and Daisy's beloved brother Charley. These descendants have transcribed and digitized the complete book, which is now available as a Kindle book from Amazon and as a free downloadable PDF from Greene Connections. The family shared the digital files with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2019. Source Citation: Francis Lazear (Greene County, Pennsylvania) to Nancy E.
