Jane (Zimmerman) Morris [1838-1869].
Jane was a daughter of Thomas Zimmerman and Mary Taylor of Greene County, Pennsylvania. She was the first wife of Asa Warren Morris (the pioneer). After a failed attempt at gold mining, Asa settled in Yolo County, California, in 1852. He built a cabin and squatted on 160 acres. In 1857, he returned by ship to Greene County, to find a wife. He met nineteen-year-old, Jane Zimmerman and convinced her to marry him. Her parents disapproved of their daughter going west, so Jane climbed out of a window and eloped with Asa on January 13, 1858. They returned by ship to California. Asa and Jane had one son, Leroy, who died at age fifteen months. Jane died in August, 1869 of typhus fever.
