Description

Carte-de-visite of Felix Hughes Crago, Company D, 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment, Civil War - son of Thomas Crago and Cassandra Hughes. Handwritten inscription on album page appears to read, "Uncle Hughes." This photograph was identified and verified after genealogical and historical research by: 1) Flickr member mcb937 and 2) David Kent Fonner, author of "All Quiet on the Border: The Civil War Era in Greene County, Pennsylvania." Flickr member mcb937 suggested that "Uncle Hughes" may refer to Felix Hughes Crago and supplied a biographical sketch published in Gibson Lamb Cranmer's "History of Wheeling City and Ohio County, West Virginia and Representative Citizens," pages 825-827. David Kent Fonner provided corroborating evidence in an analysis of the original photograph and confirmation of Crago's identity with an identified photograph of Crago that was published in Samuel Clarke Farrar's "The Twenty-Second Pennsylvania Cavalry and the Ringgold Battalion, 1861-1865," page 70. Original, no photographer listed.
