Description

Harness Shop owned by James Mahan [1846-1914] and Sias "Cy" Billingsley [1848-1928] on High Street in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. A notation on the back of the photograph states that according to Helen Closser, granddaughter of James Mahan, this group of men frequently gathered at the shop and self-entitled themselves "The Gutter Club." Pictured [Left-Right]: Unidentified, Squire Gooden, James Mahan (who lost his leg 19 October 1864 with Gen. Sheridan at the Battle of Cedar Creek, while a member of Company G, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment), Unidentified, Lewis Billingsley (a son Sias "Cy" Billingsley and a Bell Telephone executive), John Carter, Sias "Cy" Billingsley.
