Description

Harvey Pratt Stickles [1887-1973] in WWI uniform - husband of Helen Louise Moreland, son of Jacob Lemley Reddick and Harriet Jennie Wood. After his parents divorced on 3 November 1892, Harvey took his maternal grandmother's married surname of Stickles. Harvey enlisted in the military on 24 June 1916 and was discharged on 17 May 1919. He served during World War I with the 166th Infantry Regiment, 42nd Division and received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, July 29-30, 1918. The Lorraine (Stickles) Elias Collection was passed from Harriet Jennie (Wood) (Reddick) Miller [1867-1953] to her son, Harvey Pratt Stickles [1887-1973], and his wife, Helen Louise Moreland [1894-1990], to their daughter, Lorraine Augusta Harriet (Stickles) Elias, who owned and shared the collection with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2003.
