Scope and Content

Family data, Charles A. Black Family Bible, The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments; Translated Out of the Original Tongues, and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised with Canne's Marginal Notes and References. Together with the Apocrypha (Boston: B. B. Mussey, 1845). Within the Charles A. Black Family Bible are also family data pages torn from the Jacob Black Family Bible, the father of Charles A. Black. These pages do not include a title page; however, on page 679, an entry dated 10 January 1815 is likely to be closely tied to the date the family acquired the Bible: "Be it Remembered that / this Day I Entered the / foregoing from my / Original Records and have Examined and Comp / ared them & I Discover / no Error / Jacb. Black." The Charles A. Black Family Bible and the Jacob Black Family Bible data pages were donated to the Greene County Historical Society (918 Rolling Meadows Road, P.O. Box 127; Waynesburg, Pennsylvania 15370) and was researched and digitized for the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project between 2005-2014. Transcribed by virtual volunteers through the Greene Connections Archives crowdsourcing project, 2020.
