LINDSEY, PIONEER OF AGUILAR DISTRICT, DEAD EARLY SETTLER OF GULNARE DISTRICT AND FORMER MAYOR OF AGUILAR DIED AT LOCAL HOSPITAL EARLY TODAY Arthur I. Lindsey, 80 years of age, pioneer resident of Las Animas county, and prominently identified with the early development of the Aguilar Gulnare district, passed away today at 6 a. m., at the Mt. San Rafael hospital. Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, in 1857, Mr. Lindsey yielded to the urge to come west early in life and at the age of 26, in 1883, in company with his uncle, the late Judge John A. Lindsey, settled in Colorado, buying several thousand acres on the upper Apishapa, the present site of Gulnare. Later he moved to Aguilar and established himself in the lumber business and was one of the principal figures in the development of a few houses there into the town of Aguilar of today. He answered to the call of public duty and served as mayor of Aguilar for a period of 18 or 20 years, retiring to devote his time to the company which bears his name. Deceased is survived by two brothers, William W. Lindsey, and John H. Lindsey, both of Aguilar; a sister, Mrs. A. L. Munell of Waynesburg, Pa., and a cousin, Malcolm Lindsey, present city attorney of Denver. Funeral announcements will be made later by the Campbell-Lewis mortuary."
